MONOLOGUE SLAM!

On the first Thursday of (nearly) every month, we are holding our first annual Monologue Slam! competition. Over six heats and two semi-finals, we will shower our winners in cash, prizes and glory at the Grand Finale in November. Judges Awards and Peoples Choice Awards are up for grabs in what is sure to be an exciting and entertaining series of evenings.

See below for all details on the competition and how to enter!

Come and be part of the excitement that is             Monologue Slam!

The rules are simple:

  • There are two sets of heats and semi-finals throughout the year (see below for dates). The first three heats will determine 18 semifinalists (6 monologues each heat) and the second three heats will do the same. From the 18 monologues from each semi-final, 6 monologues will be chosen to be performed at the Grand Finale in November totalling 12 monologues where there be one winner in each of the three categories.

  • Participate in whichever heat or heats you wish to by entering your details via the link below. All six heats throughout the year are available.

  • There are a maximum of 20 monologues allowed for each heat.
  • Your monologue can only be performed once during the heats.
  • You can enter a maximum of four monologues per year with a maximum of two different monologues per heat.
  • Your monologue’s origin can be from anywhere – i.e. a play, a screenplay, a teleplay, a novel or even an original piece.
  • No poetry please unless it is from a source whose form or structure is specifically written that way i.e. Shakespeare
  • Your monologue can be no less than 5 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes in length. Judges will be timing you and will take off points if you go too short or long.
  • Essential props and costumes are permitted and a chair will be supplied but no sets please. The idea is to jump up and perform!
  • Due to potential adult content in some monologues, the minimum entry age is 16 years.
  • There will be three categories at each heat, semi-final and  the Grand Finale. There will be two winners for each category at the heats and semi-finals and 1 for each category in the Grand Finale:
    • The Judges’ pick for Best Performer under-25 years old
    • The Judges’ pick for Best Performer 25 years and older
    • The People’s Choice pick for Best Monologue
    • (if the People’s Choice and the Judges Award match then the Judge’s will select their next best)
  • In the name of fairness and impartiality, no tutor or anyone directly associated with Mockingbird Theatrics will be part of the judging panel.
  •  There is a $20 entry fee per monologue payable upon completing your entry form. 100% of the entry money will be divided between the winners in November. There will be total transparency in this regard. Please return to this page after each heat to see how many people participated and how much the prize pool total is growing.
  • With 20 participants maximum and six heats, the potential prize pool is $2400. Mockingbird Theatrics will match the prize pool, doubling it to potentially $4800 totalling $1600 for each winner.
