PLAY IN A DAY

The most exhilarating time you can have in the theatre!

Here’s how it works:

You will book yourself in as a writer, a director or an actor

Everyone assembles at the theatre at 10:00PM on Friday 11 April

Each writer will be randomly assigned a director

Each director will then be randomly assigned their actors

Everyone will then be assigned the same theme

The actors will be asked to bring a prop that must be incorporated into the script

After a brief discussion in their teams, the directors and actors will go home, leaving the writers (who will be supplied plenty of coffee and sustenance through the evening) to create their magic.

They must create a play of approximately 20 minutes in length utilising the theme, the props and the actors they have been given. Perhaps an actor has a special skill that can incorporated into the play? Perhaps one of the props will become the central object that the plot revolves around?

At 8am, the directors will return and discuss their scripts with the writers.

At 9am, the actors will return and the fun really begins!

The writers can now go home and get some shut eye before the evening’s performance.

The directors and actors now rehearse and learn their play by 6.30pm.

During this time, each team will be allocated a half hour slot in the afternoon to tech (lights, sounds & music, placement of furniture etc) their play.

At 8:00PM, in the main theatre at the Belconnen Arts Centre, in front of hopefully a large, captive audience, the plays will be performed.

Coffee, tea, refreshments and food will be on hand right up to the last moment to keep the participants full of energy and motivation.

This is an incredible experience where you hang on for dear life and fly by the seat of your pants. It’s a theatrical rollercoaster that will leave you exhilarated!
